Weeds are flowers too…

Once you get to know them

I was walking with my brother towards Lavernock Point along the cliff top overlooking the Bristol Channel. I was admiring the view of course and enjoyed pinpointing where we were. We live on opposite sides of this stretch of water (almost) opposite each other. We can both see the same islands in the channel.
I was also busy taking pictures of the wild flowers along the way as I usually do when he asked me what I was looking at.
I showed him and he wondered why I was taking pictures of weeds.
“I’ll send the pictures to you when I get home” I told him. “Would you hold this one for me? It is too low down for my back today”
We continued our walk with him looking out for photogenic ‘weeds’ that were growing too near the ground for me. (Yes he is a wonderful brother).

In the pub garden afterwards:) he said how much more interesting the walk had been with a camera in hand, he had never noticed the flora growing along this walk before.

I was thinking about the quote that Helena uses on her blog from Improv Wisdom by Patricia Ryan Madson.

Celebrate the obvious – what is ordinary to you is often a revelation to others.

I sent him these pictures

I know the AA Milne quote I used for my title usually gets interpreted as a metaphor, but sometimes I like to use it literally.

Seen anything ordinary lately?

The Lengths and Heights we go to…

…to demonstrate a point.

Am I the last to join Julies Height of Summer?

I can’t find a full length photo of me that is anywhere near flattering recent. So would a picture of my airing cupboard door do?

Last time Lotta was here there was an early morning discussion about height. (No, I have no idea why). She and Ben think and talk in metric whilst Paul & I are firmly planted in imperial which didn’t help the conversation at all. Ben was telling suggesting to Lotta that she had her height measurement wrong and that if it was right she would be as tall as his mum.
Ooops! note to son: never compare or even allude to comparison between girlfriend and mother…bad move.
So this was what he did…
He got his parents and girlfriend out of bed, searched around for a pencil and tape measure and made us all stand by the airing cupboard door. We were still in our nighties! We each had to be measured, twice. Once in metric and once in imperial.

I would have preferred a conversion because I am five feet six inches when I do that!

Thank you Julie for such a fun challenge.

Something…

…and nothing

At the breakfast table this morning I ran out of one of my tablets.
I went to the draw to fetch another packet.
I noticed an empty chocolate box on the side and picked it up.
In the kitchen on the way to the bin I thought I would take the cloth off the table and put it in the wash.
I took the cruet off the table and noticed the salt needed filling.
I took the cruet with me and I put the rubbish in the bin.
I got the new salt and filled the cruet, spilling salt as I did so.
I wiped the worktop and the one next to it and the cooker top.
As I moved around towards the sink I got myself a glass of water, taking a sip I wondered where my tablets might be.
Exhausted I sat at the table, still with its cloth on and re-traced my steps in my head now resting in my hands.
That revealed a total blank so I physically went back around my route and found the new tablet sachet in the bin, and the empty sachet on another worktop.
And the cloth is still on the table.

Housework!
Give it up!
Blog about it instead!

Never say Never

You would think I would learn, Cash cards, Computers, Driving, Blogging, Photoshop, Photography, things I said I would never do and now I can’t imagine life without them.

And then I said I would never use Twitter and do tweeting (whatever it was)
Until now.
Ben had an idea.
So that I could follow himself & Mike on their travels, reduce the amount of worrying I will do and reduce the need for him to constantly phone me, (poor thing! I can’t help it, I worry) he set me up a Twitter account. So now he just ‘tweets’ and I just know that he is OK.
Brilliant. Perfect.
Because the bikes have to be re-fuelled every 80 miles or so he is tweeting when they stop at the petrol station. I can’t tell you how much stress it has taken away.
And I just love, love, love it! Oooh! Ive been tweeted! is a new refrain from me.
There is also a great little thing on their blog that updates their position at the same time. Now for someone who adores maps and worries about him on ‘that bike’ it is just wonderful.

Oh how could I resist this picture for this post?

I still don’t think I’ll really get ‘into’ tweeting though but I am enjoying this new adventure.
Am I the last person on the planet who’s not tweeting?

My Month in Numbers

This is my first time with this, be kind please?

I knew that Julie Kirk hosted this feature and have seen folks recording their Month in Numbers all over blogland but it has passed me by until now.
Julie has a great tutorial here on how she puts her MiN together.
I am inspired.
I intend to print my ‘pages’ at 4×6 on matt photo paper and put them in a very simple book, Or maybe in my project folder. Obviously not thought this through!
Lets just do it shall we Miriam? Leave the details, they will reveal themselves
“in the end and if they don’t, then it isn’t the end”. My new favourite quote, it is from the film The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.

Julie says
Everyone is welcome to join in this simple way to collate their month’s moments and add ‘My Month in Numbers’ to their blogging repertoire. So, if you’d like to join the growing band of number bloggers …

Yes please Julie, I would love to join you.
