About Miriam Rogers

Hi, I have been married to Paul for what seems like forever & that's the way I want it to stay. We have a son, now 21 and a Greyhound who is bonkers. I play with paper and glue, I love flowers! and anything that I can hang from anywhere with ribbon. If you need me I can be found in the garden with my camera or in my craft room, come in through the gate, I'll make you a coffee or if it's after 6 you can join me in a glass or wine, or e-mail me. Housework is low on my 'to do' list.

Memorandum Monday

Memorandum Monday is another one of Sian’s brilliant ideas.

Sian said “I’d love you to tell us something you did over the weekend FOR THE FIRST TIME. Or (though it’s not really an “or”, because you are very welcome to do both) delight us with something you learned and DIDN’T KNOW BEFORE.”

So, over the weekend I learned about, signed up to and am playing ‘Words With Friends’ Actually, words with Friend would be more accurate.
It’s scrabble, I play it on my phone and its free.

I am playing with my friend Marcella who has been playing for nearly three years! This is my first game and I love it, I’m nowhere near as good as Marcella but it doesn’t seem to matter.

You can play as fast or a slow (that’s me) as you like.
Marcella has lots and lots of games going on at the same time. I only have her!
If anyone would like to play with me, sign up and look for me, I am MiriamRogers (what a surprise!) Go on, give it a whirl.

I love words and have always loved scrabble but the thing I like is the fact that we are in contact.
Oh! You can send each other messages too. The last one I sent Marcella was “are you giving me all the rubbish tiles?”

Thank you for a fun new Monday connection Sian, waving on Monday 18th from a very grey rainy world outside my window.

Short Stories

In six words

Adrienne has stopped running her meme 6 words Friday. I linked to her for ages and then, as happens sometimes, I stopped posting my pictures but I kept up with the meme, printing my stories instead and they are now in a book. I have decided that this year I will post my 6 word story and picture to my blog.

I’m using this list. If anyone would like to join me please do. You can use my list or make one of your own, or just ad lib on the day.
The original idea for 6 Words was to write using only 6 words per line, the whole thing could be as long as you like but I like to caption my photos with just six words

Snap!

Week Two

Spying on the birds this week. I took the pictures through the window which is why they are a bit cloudy. When it stops raining for a whole day I’ll clean them.
I watched for ages and hoped I could get a set of pictures for Helelna’s Snap! I took so many and it has been fun flicking through them quickly on my computer to make them move as if watching a film. It reminded me of those little flick books we had or made as children where you flicked the corner to make someone run along or cycle and fall off the bike. Oh! my goodness where on earth in my poor ‘ole brain has this lot come from?

Thank you to Helena for this lovely new theme of Snap! There were some wonderful interpretations for the theme last week and some gave me some ideas for future Snaps!

5 Pictures in 5 Minutes

I am going to try (again) to link to Sandie each month with 5 pictures taken in five minutes.

Here are my 5 for January 2016

I took these last week on the 7th, a beautiful sunny day with not a drop of rain but my goodness did the wind make up for it. I think I took these and lots more in much less than 5 minutes in the hope of getting something worth showing you. I just couldn’t hold the camera any longer! The wind was forecast to be 50 mph by 3pm, I was at the beach at just after 2pm.

Looking across to Cardiff from Sand Bay, Weston-super-Mare. You can see the Millennium Stadium’s 3 white triangular roof struts. You can only see Cardiff on a clear day, it is about 12 miles from Weston across the bay.

Also waving at Sian and her Monday wavers, hoping you all have a good week. See you Wednesday for Snap!?

Now if I had been a bit more organised and visited Sian on Wednesday 6th instead of just now for her link details, I could have made a post about this bit of something I learned over the weekend and linked to her new Memorandum Monday. Strangely, it kind of links in with her little bit of newly gained knowledge.

The little finger or toe is called the minimus. Anatomy: the little finger or toe.

Maybe it is too small a thing to be a post on its own. I’ll leave it here.

Winter Scavenger Hunt

Joy and Eileen have organised another great Winter Scavenger Hunt this year and I’m doing quite well with it.

Item 21 My Own Handwriting

I liked doing this, I did it on the second day of December after reading the prompt list for the first time. I wrote about the prompts and the ease and fun with which I was going to get Item 14 Afternoon Tea. Ha! How wrong can a Scavenger Hunter be?

Item 21 Handwriting

Item 20 Cutlery

This is my favourite of the numerous pictures of cutlery I have. I even asked on an antique stall if I could take a picture of a rather nice canteen of cutlery that I had no intention of buying. The guy was just thrilled that I bothered to ask! Anyway we had a really nice lunch at Jamies and I loved the napkins!

Item 20 Cutlery

Item 2 Tinsel

I don’t like tinsel but I keep this little bit for Ben. He loves to aggravate me by putting it in inappropriate (you don’t want to know) places. I do like the festive colour though.

Item 2 Tinsel

Item 15 Candlelight

The first day of December and the day we lit our advent candle. I so love the tradition of lighting the candle each evening after our meal, it feels like a quiet end to a busy day of Christmas prep. We also love the ritual of seeing how many days we forget to light it. I write in my December journal whether we have or not. This year we were really bad at remembering and of course we just had to sit up and have yet another drink on Christmas Eve to get the candle down!

Item 10 A Windy Day

I was literally nearly blown away trying to take this set of pictures! I have a few mediocre attempts at depicting a windy day but I loved the idea of this. We were in London at Canary Wharf, it was really windy so we had gone inside a building to catch our collective breath(s?) and looking out to the street noticed this sign being blown almost to the floor. I couldn’t resist could I?

item 10 Windy Day

Thank you Joy and Eileen
More next week. Thanks for looking. How are you doing with the Scavenger Hunt?
