Photo Art Friday

Pixel Dust Photo Art

I am also linking to Six Word Friday’s and The Great Big Stitched Postcard Swap and…
I am playing with my sewing machine mending and altering and making stuff.
Lots going on here today.

I once read that mending or altering clothing or household items was, to some people, like Michelangelo having to paint a hall, stairs and landing! Well, I like mending. I find it satisfying. What do you think about mending?

First of all then over to Pixel Dust Photo Art where Bonnie has opened her virtual gallery with the optional theme ‘Abstract Flowers’
I had a play.

The Great Big Stitched Postcard Swap for 2014 has Create as it’s theme.

I have finished my stitched postcard for my swap partner Marsha at Coolquilting and it will be in the post on Monday. Obviously I am not going to show you the postcard but when I turned it over to attach some heavy card to stabilise it I thought the back looked a bit like a snow scene from Winnipeg which is where Marsha lives. This amused me greatly this morning.

Adrienne’s word for this week is Push

As I have been stitching away on Marsha’s postcard I just thought ‘Still pushing ahead with my postcard’ seemed appropriate

  1. Wow, you have been a busy girl! Like Alexa, I just LOVE that grasses piece. SO pretty!

I had to laugh about your bit on mending. I am not a fan! In fact, in the early days before I knew how to say NO, I used to do a lot of it for co-workers. The last time I mended for someone it was to replace a zipper in a pair of jeans and that was it for me – never mended for other people since. Well, except for my father-in-law. I’ve sewn a few buttons on for him over the past couple of years since my MIL passed away. <3

  2. love the grasses!
So I will just have to wait to see my card……………….or you could post on their facebook page to be eligible for some prizes

  3. Oh yes – the grasses image is gorgeous. (I love those painterly textures!) You certainly sound busy doing interesting and beautiful projects, Miriam!

  4. Hmm, mending .. well, I confess I’m not much of a mender! Much more fun to do arty things! And you’ve done a lot of wonderful arty things here. Love the abstract flowers for PAF. I think the grasses are my favourite, too. Along with the back of Marsha’s postcard – that’s so fun!

  5. Hi Miriam,
You asked about liking mending, and my initial reaction was: no, not at all! But upon further reflection, I remembered three or four mending jobs I’ve done for other people in the past few years. In every case I had to sit quietly, settle myself, figure out the original construction, then, as you said, I “pushed ahead” as best I could. It was like a puzzle, and, actually, I did like it. So much for first reactions!
I’m a quilter, so family and friends always have confidence in my ability to fix their clothes! LOL!
    Happy Weekend to you. 🙂

  6. I too love the grasses – did you mask them clear or do they stand out with the blending? I love the back of the stitched card and agree it could be a winter scene

  7. Miriam, these look like beautiful paintings.
    I especially love “Grasses.”

I don’t like to do mending and alterations, but I do love to sew (clothing and crafty things). I used to spend a lot of time with that, and need to get back to it.

    Have a great weekend!

  8. ooh, you are so creatively busy. Mending? Not a fan, despite being a sewer in years past. I’ll do it if I have to, but I don’t darn socks. And I’m sure shop bought clothes fall apart so much more easily than they used to!!
