ZIZO is Helena’s weekly meme.

Zooming in and out at nature this week.
I know it was probably a bit rude of me but I was so thrilled to see a ladybird a few weeks ago that when I spotted two of them on one leaf, well I just couldn’t resist. I left husband watching them while I ran in for my camera. Fortunately they were still engrossed. He did wonder what to do if they moved!

So nature doing what nature does and on such a beautiful leaf. Fingers crossed I will see some more in a few weeks.

Thank you for this lovely meme Helena.

Lab 11 Light and Dark
Lab 12 Monochrome Shadows
Lab 13 Backlit

I am working through my Creative Photography book with Jill and Marsha.

I am behind!
Lab 11 Light and Dark. Make the white white and the black black.
I really enjoyed doing this assignment once I had decided what to photograph! I have some white china and some black serving bowls, I thought they would be good but when it came to it I thought I’d give the Cruet a go as it was sitting on the table doing nothing.

Then I remembered I had some paper whites (narcissi) in a black pot on my windowsill.

And next to them; waiting for hyacinths, is my pottery and white china flowerpot.

So, no china plates or pretty black bowls!

I love the outcomes of this assignment but I find it such a faf to keep re-setting the camera. I am too impatient by half when there is photoshop to play with.

Lab 12 Monochrome Shadows. Finding and seeing.
This assignment was right up my street as I always notice shadows. It was interesting to make the picture by isolating the shadow in the frame. I couldn’t find any shadows that were interrupted by other objects as Steve suggested.

On the top row:
The seahorses are a wind chime.
I liked the orchid shadow with its subject.
A flower on a stepping stone and a bridge over the river.
The middle four:
Tree branches, Me & Him, a very pretty curved bench and the shadow of the blacksmith’s sign.
On the bottom row:
On the left hand side are a few things on my desk and the fabulous shadow they were making on the door.
The dots (actually triangles) just didn’t look right without the blind that is making them.

As it was a beautiful sunny day I thought I would have a look at
Lab 13 Backlighting.

I have no-one here to stand between me and the sun, the dog won’t co-operate either.
I tried with plants.

If we get another nice day on Tuesday I will ask my friend to play when we go out for lunch.

I am looking forward to Lab 14.
Steve has asked us to find and photograph 6 ‘things’ a prelude to Rinda’s scavenger hunt perhaps?

Time for Tea

This lovely idea is the brainchild of Abi at Creating Paper Dreams.
Towards the end of the month a group of bloggers from around the world have a virtual cup of tea or coffee, sometimes lunch, sometimes there’s cake! and imagine what we would talk about.

March 27th 2014
Quarry 1
We are at the Old Town Quarry for our catch up today.
It is a lovely bright day; the sun is warm on my back.
I have been here for a few minutes so that I could look out for you.

“Hi, glad you found it! Yes it is pretty, especially on a bright day. Shall we have lunch first? They do a beautiful brie and cranberry panini, or the stilton and mushroom one is gorgeous.

Like all good friends we decide on one of each!

I’ll order, have a look around if you like. There is a new art exhibition around the walls, I’ll join you when I’m done at the counter”.

After lunch we go outside and walk, with our cameras of course. At this time of year when the trees are without leaf you can see the glorious colours of the quarry walls.
“How on earth do those trees stay put?”

Quarry 4

Quarry 2

“The blacksmith is working, I can hear his machines. We wont be able to go in unfortunately but we can peer through the gate like school children do…”

We make our way down into the bowl of the quarry. It has been grassed over and there are a couple of benches we can sit on and listen to the birds.
“Do you hear that song? It’s the Great Tit. Well, I say song, someone once described it to me as the Lesser Spotted Bicycle Pump! Ah! you hear it now!”

We sit on the bench in the sunshine and talk about the last few weeks since we saw each other.
We talk about our families, children and pets for a while. I mention although my dog has been poorly, and I have been concerned, I think she has turned the corner this morning. I make you laugh with tales from the family party I went to this month. I caught up with two brothers that weekend and another brother called in to see me this morning so I am pretty much up to speed with them.
We talk about our blogs, and the fact that there never seems to be enough time to do all the lovely things we would like.
We have a shared hope that spring is gradually reaching out to us. And we both agree how grateful we are to have made this commitment to catch up once a month.

Signs of Spring at the Quarry

You have brought me some of your artwork, and something for me to put on my shelf! Thank you!

I have brought some things to show you. “I have been bitten by the Great British Sewing Bee bug. I have made a Scottie dog pin cushion,

I have started a quilt square, made some spring bunting, from a piece of material in the 50p bin in the charity shop. I have started a rather large Daschund pin cushion in blue denim for Lotta (Ben’s girlfriend) which involved cutting up a pile of jeans that I have been collecting. I cut up three t-shirts and made yarn so that I can make a piece of wall art.

I have almost finished my weaving, again a piece to hang on my wall.
I have received two postcards from Kat Sloma’s Liberate Your Art swap

The card is from Ken Keiran and comes alive on his blog. I love it, do try and visit his website.
I know that you will have seen the other one on my blog.

and of course the beautiful Stitched Postcard from my swap partner, Marsha, in Winnipeg.

I am on track with my own challenge. Inspired by some postcard swaps I want to send two postcards out every week this year. They will be my own photographs that I have had printed or some original piece of art that I have stitched or painted. It is week thirteen and I have posted 29 cards Oooh! I just realised I am ahead!”
If you know anyone who would like to receive one let me have their address and I’ll add it to my list.

“I must just tell you about my latest iPhone app. It’s called Waterlogue and is so much fun. It turns your photos into beautiful watercolours. It cost £1.99 and one of the few that I have bought that I think is worth every penny”.

All too soon it is time to say goodbye.
I have had such a lovely time with you, I would hug you and say “stay well, talk on the blog and see you in April?”

ZIZO

Zoom In Zoom Out week thirteen

This week I have been zooming in and out at the fishing lake at the end of the garden of the house we stayed in a couple of weekends ago. I was out in the garden at about 8:30am on the Sunday morning, not a soul about, quiet except for the birdsong. I saw the Canada geese through my telephoto lens and watched them gracefully glide towards me across this beautiful lake. I imagine that the people who live along the edge of the lake feed them. I was thinking the scene would make a nice ZIZO so I have put a few pictures into a slide show for you this week.
You should have heard the noise they made when they realised I had nothing for them!
