Texture Tuesday

I am linking with the wonderful Kim Klassen again this week. Her challenge was to put some words on a picture, and use at least one of her textures. This is so far out of my comfort zone!
I went for a couple of song lyrics.
The first, by the amazing Van Morisson which I have to confess to using before on a Valentines card to my husband many years ago. And the second is a very pretty song by Bob Marley which we sometimes sing at my song club.

I took this picture of my husband on his birthday this week and just put one layer of Kim’s vintage overlay on but I though the word was a bit mean so I took it off! (the word not the overlay, sorry Kim). The pretty red colour in the back ground is a beautiful Acer that I bought him for our Wedding Anniversary so I just wanted a subtle texture, the overlay was perfect.

Have I told you lately that I love you?
Have I told you there’s no one above you?
Fill my heart with gladness, take away my sadness
Ease my troubles that’s what you do

There is a video here of this lovely song.

The little green bird hangs on a branch in the garden. The pretty song by Bob Marley came to my mind and I wondered if I could make the one little bird into three little birds but I need more photoshop practice…

The little bird has one layer of Kim’s Plaster 2 at soft light lend mode and a layer of her Magic Edges.

Rise up this mornin’,
Smiled with the risin’ sun,
Three little birds
Pitch by my doorstep
Singin’ sweet songs
Of melodies pure and true,
Sayin’, (“This is my message to you-ou-ou:”)

Here is a YouTube video of the song

Days of Summer

I am linking to Alicia for her new summer meme. Week one is Flowers. The project will run through until the end of August. Have a look here for details and posting dates.
These flowers are looking pretty in my garden just now.

They all have Kim Klassen’s Magic edges texture on and are lightly brushed with a large soft round brush and levels adjusted ever so slightly.

Take a look over here if you have a moment & see some fabulous flower photography.

Project 64

Project 64 are looking for Salmon this week.

The colour looks much paler on the little card with my scribble on it.
I had the crayon with me at the garden centre this week and choose this geranium because it was such a good match.

This beautiful peony has so many shades of pink including, I think, Salmon.

I used this tissue paper in the glass to photograph some gold earrings and it was still on my desk when I saw the reveal. I wanted the beads for another challenge but changed my mind, I am sure the whole thing says salmon.

Look over here there are some really beautiful Salmon pictures to feast your eyes on.

All my shots are SOOC this week.

Story Telling Sunday

Sian, she of the good ideas, is hosting a monthly story telling club. I really love to join in with this. I love to read other peoples stories but an added extra is that the stories sometimes spark off memories in me that I had long forgotten … like this one.

Actually, I wasn’t going to join in Sian’s story telling Sunday today because I wrote a story last week, for today, but reading it again last night, I decided not to publish it. But then this came to light this afternoon.

Last week I was visiting at Project 64 for the Yellow Orange challenge and came across this picture.

It brought back a memory so I wrote to Lili and asked her permission to use it. Of course she said yes!

When I was a young girl the walk to the shops or church involved walking past a couple of houses I didn’t like going past, both for different reasons.
One house had a lot of ‘big boys’ living there. They had cars and bikes and ‘things’ all over the front of the garden so I avoided it because it scared me. I can understand that even today.
The other house actually belonged to my mother’s friend Grace. She was not scary at all, rather nice in fact but, in her garden there was a huge bed of extremely tall Kniphofia. They used to scare the wits out of me! They were taller than me and waved about menacingly as soon as I went near them. I couldn’t bear to look at them, the colours were horrible and I thought that if one touched me I would surely die!
No, I have no idea why I had such a vivid imagination. Probably having lots of horrid brothers didn’t help.
My mother said that it was only a poor ‘ole plant, it had a pretty red and orange flowers.
No it wasn’t pretty! and it was called Red Hot Poker! For goodness sake even the name is scary. Perhaps it would burn me to death! I think I thought they might be the flowers of hell. Well, do you know I still can’t bear to look at them! I don’t think they are in the least bit pretty and I don’t really like red or orange and yellow together.

Thank you Lili, your picture is beautiful and not scary but to me the flower is not beautiful and it is still scary.

There will be wonderful stories over here today, take a look?

Hot Hot Hot

I was steaming some beautiful young spinach leaves this week and noticed the steam rising and yes the spinach was fabulous!

Finding Form
I struggled with this one. I looked at a couple of websites which were fascinating and I think I have a better understanding of Form but I couldn’t get out to try so I almost had to pass until I came across this blog.
Food again! This time a cabbage, and yes I really love strong dark greens!

Any hints or tips on Form in photography would be greatly appreciated.

Front page of the news

I really couldn’t get my head around this one. My first thought was to post a pictures of my husband who had a birthday this week, that was pretty big news around here.
I couldn’t leave a blank space here and as it was Derby Day over here today I went to my archive and found this.
This old chap would never win a Derby! but he was very nice and let me take his picture. Well, it made me smile!

Chore

I couldn’t resist this, There is always washing to be done in our house, somedays I think someone is ‘bringing it in’.
