October Photos 27/31

I was in Clevedon this evening and couldn’t resist a look at the beautiful pier. I know it has been photographed millions of times, but here is my pictures taken at 6pm this evening.
It won’t be the only picture taken at 6pm this evening because as I was getting back into my car with my little Kodak point & shoot, the guy getting into the car beside me had the most enormous lens & tripod!!!
Some things I didn’t know about the pier;
I didn’t know that the pier is the only fully intact, Grade 1 listed pier in the country.
I didn’t know that there are 58 piers around our coast line, here is a list, Ooohh how I love lists..
I did know that the Bristol Channel has the second highest tidal range in the world with ranges in excess of 15 metres.
The highest is in Canada. Two places are fighting over it so I just went with Canada.
And just because, for some reason it amused me, Clevedon pier is one of the finest surviving Victorian piers in the country and was designed to be both elegant and functional. It’s to do with thin legs/less water pressure Tell me about it!

  1. We SO know this pier!!!! Our business is located on the road that overlooks the pier and when DH is feeling weary or needs a break, he wanders off to watch the sea from there 🙂
    It is run as a charitable trust & you can purchase little brass plaques (inscribed with anything you like – names of loved ones, anniversaries etc) which they embed in the deecking. We have this on our list of things to do 🙂
