Week Three

Cheryl has a guest leading our course this week. Barb Brookbanks has an amazing north facing window for her shots, her behind the scenes shot is lovely.
She has suggested we set up a still life with three items.

Here are some ideas I had.

I was drawn to these colours and liked the tall vase with the book and beads low in the picture.

My little scallop shells again, I really like them on the white plate

A Tibetan singing bowl with its box, mat and striker which I changed to black & white

And Poppyseed heads, focusing on the middle one, and then a Pixel Dust texture on them.

I am loving this class, I hope you can tell.
I like seeing all the pull back shots that show your set ups. I thought you would like to see mine.
I have a light tent but it is far too big to leave up all day so I had an idea to make something smaller. I bought two artists canvases about 18inches high and fixed them together with three small hinges. I can sit at the table and make my pictures while outside it rains all day every day at the moment. The table in the kitchen has been like this for a week! I love it.

  1. Love the poppy seeds and the black and white still life! Great mini light-tent too- the photo of the elephant is great! I will have to try that for photographing my little creations!

  2. Hmmm Miriam, I am trying so hard to choose a favorite here, and it’s a really tough thing to do. Nope, can’t do it. My favoriteS..the second one and the third one. Just love them!

  3. What a lot of great ideas! I feel lucky when I’ve come up with one good one for the week. I can’t decide between the first two for a favorite. I love the colors in the first, and agree that the shells in the white dish are really lovely.

  4. Oh yes, the fact that you’re loving this class definitely shows! These are all gorgeous, Miriam. I love the blues (my favourite colour); the black & white; and the red elephant (which, I confess, I didn’t realize was an elephant until I read Marsha’s comment!).

Thank you for showing your setup, too. I don’t have a lot of space, but I could certainly find room for something like that!

  5. My heart sang when I saw your Tibetan bowl photo – so beautiful … And your hinged canvas is so clever. I am tempted to make one of these just for photographing things for my blog!

  6. I am SO waiting for the self-paced version of this course. I’ve tasked DH to build a PVC frame for me to drape the many tablecloths I have as backdrops for tabletop photography. Thanks (again) for turning me onto it.
