Texture Tuesday

I am linking to Kim Klassen’s Texture Tuesday again this week. Kim has asked us to use her texture called Yesteryear. It will be fabulous to see what everyone does with the same texture. I think this is a really interesting idea. A bit like all scrapping with the same LO or set of papers. I just love playing with photoshop and textures, did I mention that last week and the week before?

The hyacinth and oval white mirror just said Yesteryear to me.
Two layers of Yesteryear at soft light and one at 35% opacity and of course a little reveal with the soft round brush

Some pictures from our afternoon at the farm. There was a lovely old barn stuffed full of great things to look at through my lens. I thought at the time they would be good to add some of Kim’s wonderful textures to.

This has two layers of Kim’s yesteryear texture, one at soft light blending mode and the other at normal but with the opacity set to 40%. I brushed the metalwork with a soft round brush.

Buttercups
2 layers of Kim’s Yesteryear texture both at soft light and February magic edges

I loved the sun streaming through a gap in the side of the shed lighting up these dusty old flagons. Here they are SOOC

I like to see your before and after textures and to know how your blending modes are set so I have included mine here.

Here they are with a little of Kim’s Believe and Yesteryear textures.
I started with the base layer set at screen blending mode.
Believe at soft light. Believe at soft light and 50% opacity. Yesteryear at normal and 30% opacity. Vintage overlay at soft light and 40% opacity.

The base layer again set at screen blending mode, then one layer of Believe at soft light and 50% opacity and one layer of Yesteryear at soft light and 56% opacity.

The base layer again set at screen blending mode then Believe at soft light, Believe again at soft light and 50% opacity and then Yesteryear at normal and 50% opacity and again yesteryear at soft light 56% opacity. Vintage overlay is set at soft light and 50% opacity.

Texture Tuesday

I am linking to Kim Klassen’s Texture Tuesday again this week. Our theme this week is vintage using one or more of Kim’s textures. I just love playing with photoshop and textures, did I mention that last week?

Texture Tuesday

I am linking to Kim Klassen’s Texture Tuesday again this week. This time we can link our favourite pictures with one of Kim’s textures on. I just love playing with photoshop and textures, did I mention that before?

Henry Bamford Farm Machinery with Kim's Golden texture

Devon Red calf with Kim's Branded texture

Beautiful cockerel with Kim's Apple Butter texture

The Hen house with Kim's Sweat Treat textue

Fowey town path with Kim's Grey Day texture

Water wheel at Polperro

I wanted to try something other than flowers this week. I absolutely love flowers and they are the perfect subject for adding texture but I wanted to see what else I could do.
I really love The Red Devon and the Cockerel. I think you get a sense of the rich colour and farmyard fragrance (!) from the darker textures.
The Hen house picture was so cluttered but I really wanted to do something with it. I loved the apple tree in the sitting room, it was so unusual, I wanted to share it. Sweet Treat not to heavily brushed was the answer.

The Photo of Fowey was so dark to start with. The good one had some people in but they weren’t adding anything to the shot so I returned to the dark one, set the blending mode to screen, added a couple of layers of the Grey Day texture and only brushed the house doors, the road and the textured wall and only on one layer.

The waterwheel looks so lovely with the heavy Ben’s collection 6 texture, it has really come alive and is just right for me now.

I loved the challenge that I gave myself, I Hope you like them too. I have set aside some more non flower pictures to play with!
I really love to know what textures have been used on a picture and the different blending modes that you use so, I have all the recipes written down for mine , if you want them, just e-mail me.

Have a look over here to see some really fabulous work with textures.

Texture Tuesday

I am linking to Kim Klassen’s Textures Tuesday again this week. Kim challenged us to add texture to a cup or mug. I had fun playing tea parties with some pretty little cups I have. Do you remember having tea parties with your dolls? or bears? or brothers if you could get them to sit long enough?
Shall I be mother?

This has one layer of Golden and two layers of Robins egg textures all set at Soft Light blending mode and brushed lightly with a soft round brush to reveal the teapot & cups.

This has it’s base layer set to screen. Three layers of Plaster 2 are set to 50% opacity and all three layers are brushed with a soft round brush to reveal the cup and flower.

This has its base layer set at screen blending mode and two layers of Plaster 2 set at soft light blending mode and brushed lightly with a a soft round brush.

This has it’s base layer set to Screen blending mode. Layer one is Sweat Treat set to normal blending mode and the opacity set to 50%. Layer two and three are Golden set to soft light blending mode. All three layers are lightly brushed with a soft round brush to reveal the cup and flower.

This has its base layer set at soft light blend mode. Layer one is Sugar cookie and brushed lightly with a soft round brush. Layer two is Grey day at soft light blending mode and brushed lightly with a soft round brush.

This has it’s base layer set at soft light blending mode. Layer one is Dusty rose at soft light blending mode. Layer two is Dusty rose set at blending mode multiply and the opacity is at 41%. I used a soft round brush to reveal the cup and flower on the second layer.

This has its base layer at soft light blending mode. Three layers of Lifesgood all brushed quite heavily with a soft round brush to reveal the cup and flower.

This has it’s base layer at soft light, layer one is Robin’s egg at soft light, layer two is Robins egg at normal blending mode with the opacity at 51%. Layer three is Robins egg at soft light, layer four is Sweat treat at soft light and layer five is sweat treat at blending mode multiply. I lightly brushed all layers except the last which is quite heavily brushed to reveal the original pattern on the cup.

All my textures are by the wonderful Kim Klassen. There will be many more beautiful cups of texture over at her cafe…

There is a little story attached to the last cup and saucer, but I’ll hang on to it for a few days.

Texture Tuesday

I am linking to Kim Klassen‘s Texture Tuesday with a pretty little pin cushion that I made.

pin cushion with a warm sun texture

In Photoshop I duplicated the background and changed the blending mode to soft light.
I add a new layer and placed Kim’s warm sun texture over, and changed the blending mode to soft light.
I duplicated (cmd j) the layer, left the blending mode at normal then reduced the opacity to 57%.
I took the text colour from the warm sun texture and reduced the opacity to 77%.

With Serendipity texture

I had some hyacinths in the house this week; I love their natural heady perfume. (Always a good thing when you own a greyhound!). As I was taking the leaves off and cutting the bases I noticed three new shoots and thought I would watch them for a few days. Very serendipitous indeed!
This has just one layer of Kim’s Serendipity texture at soft light blending mode.

This is one of the first pictures I added a texture to whilst taking Kim’s Skinny Mini Photoshop e-course. I still love it.

Frascati with Bent Edges texture

Duplicate the background copy.
Blending mode soft light.
Place Kim’s Bent edges over.
Reduce the opacity to 50%.
Take some of the texture away from glass and label.
Duplicate the texture layer.
Reduce the opacity to 27%.
Text colour is from the label with the opacity reduced to 87%.

I just like this picture.

Silence and Sweet Treat texture

Duplicate the background copy and the blending mode to soft light.
Place Kim’s Silence texture over and alter the blending mode to soft light.
Duplicate the Silence layer again (leave the blending mode at soft light).
Make a new layer, place Kim’s Sweet Treat over and alter the blending mode to soft light again.
On each layer I removed a little of the texture over the seedhead and the stalk.
Text colour is from the stalk with the opacity at 77%.

I thought you would like to see the little hyacinth shoots at the end of the week.
