{"id":2778,"date":"2011-10-02T01:33:06","date_gmt":"2011-10-02T01:33:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/miriamrogers.co.uk\/?p=2778"},"modified":"2011-10-02T08:29:12","modified_gmt":"2011-10-02T08:29:12","slug":"true-stories-10","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/miriamrogers.co.uk\/?p=2778","title":{"rendered":"True Stories"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>It is Sian&#8217;s Story Telling Sunday today<\/h2>\n<p>I get the writing prompts from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mamakatslosinit.com\/\">Mama&#8217;s Losin&#8217; it<\/a> each week and rarely do anything with them but for some reason, when I saw this prompt:<br \/>\nWhen was the first time you saw your mother as more than &#8216;just mum&#8217;<br \/>\nThis memory popped into my mind immediately.<br \/>\nThe story is from 1975 and my parents are no longer with us. <\/p>\n<p>I think this is the <em>first<\/em> time I realized that my mother was more than just mum.<br \/>\nI realized she was a woman and a wife, just like me.<br \/>\nMy husband &#038; I and my parents had tickets to see \u2018The Pearl Fishers\u2019 at the beautiful new Theatre in our hometown.<br \/>\nI had not long been married and thought it was such a nice thing to do, go out with the parents!  We had been to a few lovely occasions that summer.<br \/>\nAs we walked into the building, dad had gone to the bar with my husband and she said, straight out, no flowery words, no hesitant \u2018I have something to tell you\u2019. No, very bluntly she said, \u201cyou\u2019re dad is having an affair\u201d<br \/>\nI wanted to feint, I was so shocked and embarrassed. I remember my stomach turning over and my face getting hot. No, this can&#8217;t be, they were happily married, had been married for 26 years. They were a good Catholic family. My father had strong opinions about the sanctity of marriage, the importance of the family.<br \/>\nThis was the first time in my life that she had ever spoken to me about anything other than day to day mother\/daughter things, and it was this bombshell that she choose.
